Small Business Shout Out: The Tribe Gym
Here at KIK. we love giving awesome people a shout out and showing off other small businesses that are doing amazing things. Jaime and Josh from The Tribe have created so much more than just a gym so we sat down with Jaime to chat about what makes The Tribe Gym different!
The tribe was opened in February 2017 and since then Jaimie and Josh have created a welcoming community of likeminded individuals, focusing on individualisation, and specialising in strength training for people with a huge range of different abilities and goals.
Jaime started in the fitness industry 6 years ago and Josh 5, they both moved into the industry to chase down their passion and transition into a healthier lifestyle and self-relationship, they wanted to open the same opportunities and possibilities for as many other people as possible. They wanted to help others get more out of life.
They opened The Tribe Gym to give themselves the freedom to create their own welcoming culture and to grow in the small group personal training space while specialising in strength training. Jaime and Josh also wanted to be able to run all their holistic services from one physical location.
The name for The Tribe Gym was born from clients referring to what Jaime and Josh had created as a Tribe or family. They had created a community of likeminded individuals, so calling the business The Tribe Gym seemed like the right name for them. It is also a very subtle nod to our Polynesian heritage.
Owning a small business can be so challenging and Jaime and Josh have found that even in times of self-doubt, staying in their own lane, no matter what those around them were doing and experiencing has been the key to success. They know how important it is to reinvest energy back into the unique approach that differentiates them from their competitors, and they believe this is what keeps their clients coming back.
The most rewarding part about owning The Tribe Gym for Jaime and Josh has been seeing how much they help people change their lives for the better. Hearing those truly heart-felt words drives them to do their best, each and every day. This also gave them the idea of the slogan ‘More than a Gym’.
As many of you know, Dylan and I are expecting our first baby (a little girl!) in 2021 and I wanted to get Jaime’s advice on what life has been like having a wee family and running a business at the same time. Jaime said that it has made them so much more efficient with their time and to use every part of the day as effectively as they can to make sure they are prioritising the right things, while also continuing to look after themselves, both mentally and physically.
Jaime’s last piece of advice about life with a small family was that it’s important to know that each day doesn’t always go according to plan with a young family, and we need to be ok with that.
For anyone thinking about joining The Tribe, Jaime had this to say – What is the best that can happen!! The biggest challenge for people is getting started but there is no better time than the present.
So what are you waiting for?
